Invitation Letter for 2023 Arc Cup International Welding Competition
BRICS Skills Development and Technology Innovation Competition -Arc Cup International Welding Competition (Hereinafter referred to as 2023Arc Cup Welding Competition) will be held around June-November 2023,with the purpose to establish an international professionals exchanging platform for skills development and technology innovation in welding,promote the welding skills development and technical exchanges, and speed up the cultivation of welding skills professionals so as to enhance welding technical skills level together. Hereby the related matters are as follows:

II. Competitor Requirement
1. The Seventh International Welding Technology Competition
Undergraduates, higher vocational and secondary vocational students
(including postgraduates); teachers from colleges and universities, and
researchers from scientific research organizations; welding engineering
technicians; welders and relevant management staff, etc.2. The Eleventh International Welding Skills Competition
Welders with age between 18-35 years old and Students over the age of
16.
3. The Second Virtual Simulation Welding Competition
No age limit for competitors, students, teachers and employees of
enterprises can participate in the competition.
4. The Tenth International Robot Welding Competition
Competitors should be qualified welding robot operators.

III. Assessment Standards & Ranking Method
1. Assessment Standards
Judges from China and other countries shall make assessment together
to guarantee the fairness and justice of the refereeing activities according to
international recognized standards and rules.
(1) The Seventh International Welding Technology Competition
This competition requires competitors to submit competition
documents for expert assessment and make defense via online. Competitors
should submit documents by one of the following ways:
Papers and presentation PPT related to New Welding Technique/New
Equipment/New Material/New Technology;Drawings + project photos + process description related to New
Welding Technique/New Equipment/New Material/New Technology and
presentation PPT.
(2) The Eleventh International Welding Skills Competition
For this competition, Chinese and foreign judges shall make
assessment together based on ISO9606 international standards and rules to
guarantee the fairness and justice of the refereeing and assessment.
(3) The Second Virtual Simulation Welding Competition
The competition is conducted by Augmented reality (AR) simulator.
The evaluation and acceptance shall refer to ISO6947, ISO15608,etc., and
the score will be analyzed and generated by simulator.
Evaluation indicators include: correctly set welding parameters, adjust
the air pressure of welding cylinders, adjust the current and voltage, adjust
the best welding posture, control the stability of vertical angle and
horizontal angle, moving speed and distance between welding gun and
welding line. Ensure that the weld width, width difference, height, height
difference, welding line’s length, back penetration and plug hole welding
scar diameter, diameter difference, height, back penetration and other
indicators of butt welding meet the requirements, and there will be no
penetration defects.
(4) The Tenth International Robot Welding Competition
This competition follows ISO9606 international standards and
regulations.
2. Ranking Method
(1) Group Award: This award is granted to teams according to total
team scores. The total scores of each team are calculated by adding up the
scores of each team’s 3 best individual competitors in single competition
project. The teams with less than 3 competitors cannot be ranked in Group
Award.
(2) Individual Award: The best competitor in single competition
project in each country (or delegation) can be ranked in Individual Award.
(3) Young Competitors Award: Young competitors under 25
(included) years old can be ranked in the Young Competitor Award.
(4) Student Competitors Award: Student competitors of each school
can be ranked in the Student Competitor Award.
IV. Recognition and Awards
1. Group Awards
Group Awards are granted to teams. The teams will be honored with
Cups or Certificates.
2. Individual Awards
(1) For the Seventh International Welding Technology Competition,
there will set the First, the Second and the Third Prize, which will be
awarded to individuals based on different groups, which may cover 60% of
the competitors. And these winners will be awarded the honor certificates.
(2) For the Eleventh International Welding Skills Competition, Tenth
International Robot Welding Competition, Second Virtual SimulationWelding Competition and Third All-position Automatic Welding
Competition for Pipeline, there are totally nine individual competition
projects according to different welding process. The First, Second and Third
Prize will be awarded for each project, and there are first, second and third
place for the First Prize. The First Prize winners will be awarded certificates
and medals. The Second and Third Prize winners will be awarded
certificates.
(3) The instructor/coach of the first-prize teams will be awarded the
Gold Coach Certificate, and the instructor/coach of the second and third
prize teams will be awarded the Outstanding Coach Certificate.
(4) All competitors have the equal chance to win the certificate of
“Excellent Welder Prize” of 2023 Arc Cup International Welding
Competition.
3. Young Competitors Award
Young competitors under 25 (included) years old can be ranked in the
Young Competitor Award.
4. Student Competitors Award
Student competitors of each school can be ranked in the Student
Competitor Award.
V. Priority for International Participants
1. There are no any registration fees for international competitors who
submit their application forms.
2. “National Winner” who won the First Place once in their nationalwelding competition will be given reimbursement for one round-trip flight
ticket and be provided with free accommodation by the Organizing
Committee during the competition. The number of the National Winner in
the First Place who can enjoy this priority is no more than 1.
3. Top three winners in their national welding competition will be
provided with free accommodation by the Organizing Committee during the
competition. The number of the competitors in a country who can enjoy the
above two priorities is no more than 4.
4. One team leader in a country can enjoy the free accommodation
during competition.

On the evening of Oct 29, the 2022 Intelligent Welding and Additive Manufacturing Technology International Forum was successfully held in Wuxi in a combination of online and offline. More than 10 domestic and foreign guests delivered wonderful keynote speeches. More than 50 experts, scholars and enterprises representatives attended the conference, and more than 70 international guests from China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Bulgaria and other countries in the field of welding, surface engineering and additive manufacturing participated in the forum online.

The forum was hosted by China Welding Association, AWF Welding Technology and Application Committee, co-hosted by Industrial Internet Branch of China Association of Inventions,China Building Material Machinery AssociationWelding Technology Division, BRICS Training Center for Skills Development and Technology Innovation, and undertook by China Welding Association Surfacing and Additive Manufacturing Division and Beijing Arc Xinxing  Science and Technology Co., Ltd., aiming to promote the innovation ability of intelligent welding and additive manufacturing technology, and promote the application of artificial intelligence, industrial Internet, industrial robots, virtual simulation, virtual reality, machine learning and big data in welding.

The forum had a complete success, which promoted technological innovation in the field of engineering and manufacturing, promoted the development of artificial intelligence, intelligent manufacturing and digital simulation technology in engineering applications, and was also a useful exploration of the online and offline combination of international seminar mode. The forum discussion and exchange are an effort to promote the training of highly skilled personnel, improve the skill level of intelligent manufacturing and welding technology in our country, and strengthen the international exchange and cooperation between experts, scholars and enterprises in the relevant technical skills fields.

Concurrent activities

The 2022 International Forum on Intelligent Welding and Additive Manufacturing Technology is also an important sub-forum of China Welding Association. At the same time, China Welding Association held the 20th China Welding Bridge (Tangshan Kai Yuan) Industry Development Forum and the 35th Anniversary of China Welding Association on October 29 and 31.

    On November 20th, The 11th Asian Welding Technology & Application Forum--2022 Webinar on Intelligent Welding Technology and Welding Education & Training was successfully held in Chengdu. More than 10 domestic and foreign guests delivered wonderful keynote speeches, more than 200 experts, scholars, university teachers and students attended the on-site conference of Chengdu Industry & Trade College, and more than 40 international guests from Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and Bulgaria participated in the discussion online. Meanwhile, live picture streaming allows more viewers to understand and record the highlights of the webinar.

Module 1. Experience sharing  of training technical skills talents

    Dr. Liu Zhenying, Executive Chairman of Organizing Committee of Belt & Road and BRICS Skills Development and Technology Innovation Competition, Chair of AWF Welding Technology and Application Committee, Vice President of China Welding Association, delivered a keynote speech on the theme of "Discussion on the Remote Distributed International Training and Competition Model", sharing the successful cases of remote distributed international training and competition under the influence of the international epidemic, pointing out that this training and competition mode is suitable for the current welding training and education, which promotes training via competition. In order to realize remote distributed international training and competition, it is necessary to formulate distance training and competition standards and courses, establish vocational skills international training bases and joint training centers as venues and platforms required for distance training and competitions, and carry out theoretical and technical discussions in the form of auditoriums or virtual classrooms.

The competition will run from November 17 to the morning of November 20, and the competitions will go head-to-head. On the afternoon of November 20, the 11th Asian Welding Technology and Application Forum and 2022 Intelligent Webinar on Intelligent Welding Technology and Welding Education & Training will be held. The closing ceremony and award ceremony will be held on the morning of November 21.

It is reported that the ARC Cup International Welding Competition has been successfully held for nine times since 2010, and its achievements have been highly recognized by the international welding circle and praised as the "Welding World Cup" by the International Institute of Welding (IIW), the highest international welding academic organization. It is one of the most influential international welding competitions in the world.

For more than 10 years, nearly 4000 welding masters from more than 30 countries have competed together on the stage of ARC Cup International Welding Competition. More than 300 outstanding players from more than 50 central enterprises stood out from the ARC Cup international welding competition and won the titles of "Central Enterprise Technical Expert" and "Central Enterprise Youth Position Expert". They have become or are becoming the technical backbone and skill leaders of the central enterprises. More than 80 vocational schools have participated in the ARC Cup International Welding Competition, and hundreds of young students have won the international awards, and won better career development opportunities for themselves.

ARC Cup International Welding Competition is one of the tasks of the Belt and Road and BRICS Skills Development and Technology Innovation Training Center of China Association for Science and Technology. Over the past 10 years, ARC Cup International Welding Competition, as a platform for the communication of high-tech talents, has created more opportunities for the training of international welding talents, and for skilled talents to go out and participate in the construction of "The Belt and Road", and provided a great stage to realize their dreams in life!

The ARC Cup Welding Competition is also an important part of the BRICS Skills Group's design of 5 key deliverables during China's BRICS presidency in 2022. Since the first BRICS Skills Development and Technology Innovation Competition was held in 2017, the ARC Cup International Welding Competition, as the main competition, has played an important role in promoting educational cooperation, skills development and people-to-people exchanges among BRICS countries. Together with other competitions, for six consecutive years, it has been designed as an important outcome of the Annual Report of the BRICS Business Council and presented to the heads of state of the five BRICS countries.
